George Landegger - Knowing Harper Lee As A Personal Friend

George Landegger
George Landegger has met many people and made some amazing friendships during his lifetime, but one of his dearest friends was Harper Lee, author of the book To Kill A Mockingbird. He and Harper Lee both lived in Monroeville, Alabama and spent a lot of time together. He knew her better than most people and said that although she did like her privacy, she was not by any means a recluse. Harper Lee enjoyed people and loved to be around them, but she did not like to be treated like a celebrity. She loved living in Monroeville and was passionate about the community.

Mr. Landegger was supportive of Harper Lee’s lifestyle and did not pressure her to live a celebrity lifestyle. She had many other friends who were also respectful of her privacy and enjoyed spending time with her on her terms. While very few people got the chance to really know Harper Lee, those who were the closest to her like George Landegger are now able to talk about her life without feeling like they are betraying her trust. Mr. Landegger even admits that now that his close friend has passed away, he feels like he can share more of her with the world.

Lee Harper enjoyed living in Monroeville in a small care home. George Landegger visited her many times and says that her home was very nice. He believes that she was exactly where she wanted to be and was proud to have lived in Alabama her whole life.
